REFERENCE PROJECT

Gotthard Base Tunnel

At 57 kilometres, the Gotthard Base Tunnel (GBT) is the longest railway tunnel in the world and forms the centrepiece of the New Railway Link through the Alps NRLA. It embodies Swiss values such as innovation, precision and reliability.

Lot E is part of the shell equipment of the Gotthard Base Tunnel and the portal buildings. The performance of Lot E includes the entire mechanical and electrical equipment in the sections Amsteg, the two multifunction stations Sedrun and Faido, the portal building Faido, the shaft head and railway technology building in Sedrun. Lot E had the central task of supplying all rooms and computer centres with the respective shell equipment elements so that the installed systems of power supply, tunnel control technology, communication and safety systems in the respective rooms have the correct climatic conditions for operation. Failure of a cooling system in such rooms can lead to the closure of the tunnel. Accordingly, Lot E was one of the most important lots on the Gotthard Base Tunnel.

The scope of supply included:

  • the implementation planning
  • Execution
  • Commissioning incl. adjustment and start-up
  • Maintenance and upkeep
  • Documentation and training

REFERENCE PROJECT

Gotthard Road Tunnel

The Gotthard road tunnel is the fourth longest road tunnel in the world at 16.9 kilometres. It connects Göschenen in the canton of Uri with Airolo in the canton of Ticino. It was built between 1970 and 1980.

The project includes the delivery, installation and commissioning of the switchgear combinations with instrumentation and control systems in the ventilation control centres of the Gotthard road tunnel. This involves five mining control centres, two pre-tunnel control centres and two portal control centres. These have reached the end of their product life and do not comply with the valid regulations, standards and guidelines, the current safety requirements and the current state of the art. The aim of this project is the complete renewal of the room ventilation systems.

The aim of this project is the complete renewal of the room ventilation systems, increased efficiency in the exchange of information, immediate availability of data and information regarding the current situation in the Gotthard road tunnel and forwarding of the information to the control centres. In order for the aforementioned goals to be achieved at all, the various safety concepts of the BORS had to be coordinated between the cantons of Uri and Ticino.
